DERMAMELAN

The Dermamelan peel is the result of years of research by a Spanish research laboratory into skin pigmentation disorders. Hence it is now established as the gold standard when treating pigmentary disorders such as melasma.
This treatment is a skin peel that utilises key organic acids in removing and suppressing melanin which are the cells that cause pigmentation. It is a combination of in-clinic treatment and a complete home-care protocol. The home-care kit consists of specialised creams that you will need to apply in the morning and at night.

Who is eligible for this treatment ?

Dermamelan is suitable for all skin types from Caucasians to darker skin tones. Whilst the treatment is designed for those with particularly bad pigmentation; it can also be used by those with minor pigmentation or sun damage but looking for a quick fix.

Conditions treated with Dermamelan

It is excellent for treating the following pigmentation concerns:

• Cholasma /Melasma – which is brown or dark brown patches on the skin that usually occur with hormonal changes. For example after pregnancy or when going on the contraceptive pill.

The Dermamelan protocol

The Dermamelan Peel treatment consists of two phases and takes 6 -12 months to complete. The typical process will run as follows:

Phase One

Your first appointment will be an in-depth consultation. We take a detailed history of your skin condition, advise you on the protocol and steps that you will be taking in terms of a home care routine. The main treatment takes 45mins. We advise that you bring a hat or a scarf just to protect your face on the way home.

Phase Two

After phase one you will be required to attend further visits to the Clinic usually after 7 days and then 1 month post treatment. Throughout the first 3 to 6 months (depending on the dermemelan package) we provide you with a-z of your home care requirement which is included in your original package.

Treatment steps:

Your face will be cleaned thoroughly.

The mask will then be applied by the doctor.

You will need to stay at the clinic until most of the mask is absorbed (about 20 minutes).

A full post-care treatment pack along with instructions will be given to you to take home.

You leave the clinic with a mask on your face.

Once at home wait for about 10 to 12 hours and then wash off the mask.

You will start to notice your skin peeling the next day.

FAQ

How much downtime will I need?

The amount of downtime will depend on the strength of the peel. We recommend embracing longer periods of downtime in favour of more effective, long-lasting treatments where necessary. Downtime is usually between 3-7 days. Patients should avoid sunlight as the skin heals.

Are they any side effects?

Common side effects of chemical peels include flaking, peeling, redness, tenderness or stinging in the treatment area. This should subside as the skin begins to heal.

How soon will I see results, and how long will they last?

This will depend on the type of peel used during treatment, and results may take between one week and 3 months to become fully evident, depending on the length of downtime. Patients may need repeat or top-up treatment every six months. Your doctor will recommend an at-home skincare regime to help prolong the effects of chemical peel treatments.
